German Language - Getting Started

What the German language requirement for Nursing Ausbildung actually means, how the CGP language course is structured, and how to study effectively.

May be distributed freely · Not an offer of placement or visa

The honest starting point: you do not need German to make your first enquiry - but you do need it to succeed. German language training is a core part of the CGP pathway, and reaching the level required by employers and authorities is a genuine requirement of the process, not an optional extra.

01Why language comes first

Nursing Ausbildung happens in German: classroom study, ward training, patient records, handovers and conversations with patients and colleagues. No certificate of intent can replace the ability to actually work in the language.

That is why CGP treats the language course as the foundation of everything else in the pathway.

02The levels explained

German proficiency is described on the Common European Framework scale, from A1 (beginner) to C2 (near-native). Employers and authorities set the level you need to reach for your particular application.

A1

Beginner

Very basic phrases, introductions, everyday expressions. The starting point for most students.

A2

Elementary

Simple routine conversations and familiar topics; basic personal and family information.

B1

Intermediate

Deal with most situations when travelling; describe experiences, hopes and plans; give reasons and explanations.

B2

Upper intermediate

Understand complex texts and interact fluently and spontaneously enough for professional and academic settings. This is the range that employers and authorities typically require for healthcare work.

05Realistic expectations

How long it takes to reach the required level depends on how consistently you study and the level your application needs. CGP gives you a realistic timeline during counselling and updates it honestly as you progress.

A promise CGP will not make: no one can promise a specific language result or exam date. What CGP can do is teach you properly, prepare you for the test, and support you through every attempt.

06Where to start

Message CGP on WhatsApp or through the contact page. Tell them where you are starting from - complete beginner or some prior learning - and they will explain how the course fits you and the pathway.
